Career and Internship Development Initiatives

Management Consulting Club

The Morgan MBA Management Consulting Club is intended to enhance and promote practical strategic management and consulting skills beyond the classroom environment. The Management Consulting and Strategic Management Skills of students will be effectively sharpened.

The Club will organize Management Consulting Seminars/Workshops to be facilitated by leaders in the consulting industry such as practicing partners and managers in organizations such as Deloitte Consulting, IBM Global Services, Ernst and Young, Pricewaterhouse, Boston Consulting Group and so on. Resume and Cover Letter Reviews, Mock Interviews to be administered by Alumni and Recruiters, General Management Case Competitions will also be organized. Students will also be trained in the art of public speaking.

The models of strategic management would be applied in showing students how to identify practical business problems and how to tailor the models of mental management in resolving these problems and hence turn around companies.

Entrepreneurship Club

The Entrepreneurship Club is intended to enhance the skills of MBA students who have the affinity to take risks far beyond the norm. The club will help demonstrate how capital including venture capital could be raised and how organizations could be effectively managed taking cognizance of the various stages of the growth curve. The Club will invite successful Entrepreneurs from varying industries to expose students to the challenges faced by Entrepreneurs and will also organize case competitions to assist students diagnose issues, come up with alternatives and make strong cases in their fields of endeavor.

The Entrepreneurship Club will focus primarily on big business ventures although small business ventures will be considered in the scheme of things.

The International Business Club

The International Business Club is intended to give students a handle of the International World and the impact of globalization to international business. Students will be exposed to the skills of analyzing events from different perspectives on the international scene in the wake of the challenges of globalization. The club will help increase the awareness of students in global affairs and foster the discussion and exchange of ideas.

The activities of the club will be tailored in such manner as to enhance the understanding of International Business through events to be facilitated by experts from diverse fields.

Activities of the Club will include Cultural Etiquette Seminars, Case Competitions.

Investments Club

The Investments Club is intended to position the students strategically to take advantage of investment opportunities in the real world and also enable the students’ exhibit excellent competencies as they interact with Recruiters for purposes of obtaining jobs in the world of finance. Students will be exposed to the different strategies in the raising of capital and how portfolios could be managed to generate exceptional returns. Practical discussions of the capital and money markets would be organized with investment bankers and visits will also be paid by students to Wall-Street, NYSE and other physical markets. Practical discussions on Over-the-counter (OTC) will be held with investment bankers. Investment seminars organized by Investment companies will also be held.

Community Impact Club

The Morgan State MBA Community Impact Club is committed to providing skill based volunteer services to nonprofit and community based organizations. The MCIC promotes an understanding of leadership initiatives that aim to improve society as a whole. In response to the community’s needs we intend to provide outreach services, fundraising, recruitment, mentorship, strategic planning, and total wellness enrichment projects.

Additionally, the club intends to make a difference in the community and in the professional lives of students by:

  • Enhancing professional and leadership development opportunities
  • Strengthening our network of contacts within the community
  • Utilizing skills that are not necessarily taught in school
  • Developing critical management skills
  • Providing valuable team building opportunities
  • The MCIC is open to all MBA students that are interested in exposure to opportunities that will help you to become successful contributing members of society.

    While this initiative is developing at prolific rate we have proactively identified the following organizations to provide assistance to for the upcoming semester: The American Heart Society, The Maryland Family Tree, The Enoch Pratt Free Library, The Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Foundation, The League for Disabilities, and WEAA.
